Filmmaker’s right to expression upheld

Freedom of speech and expression is an often argued case. The recent ruling by Justice S. Muralidhar of the Delhi High Court in the case between the CBFC and Shristi School of Design, on the cuts asked by the CBFC in the film ‘Had Anhad‘ directed by Shabnam Virmani is an extremely valuable addition to this debate. Justice Muralidhar makes a strong case for the right of the filmmaker and the need to uphold the right to expression. His arguments are brilliantly crafted in which he often shows how the proposed cuts might actually be in violation of the Cinematograph Act.
